    ... provision of energy to moving vehicles. This 25m section of track contains all necessary components for contactless inductive transfer of energy. The centre of the track is composed of a 1.2m wide trench, which allows the testing of different electro-magnetic coil topologies. A tunnel next to the track contains control, switching, communication and vehicle location technology used to control the ground side coil system (primary coils). A mobile instrument trolley can be moved up and down the test track, allowing the vehicle side coil system (secondary coils) to be mounted and tested together with necessary instrumentation and power systems. Systems rated to 200 kW can be tested here, courtesy of our centre’s dedicated electrical supply.

     

    The following components can be integrated and tested in the instrument trolley, either separately or as an integrated system:

    The instrument trolley has been optimised as a test fixture for secondary coil systems and can be used to measure transmitted power, sensitivity to lateral movement, efficiency and magnetic field extension. The trolley is itself a precision instrument enabling precise and accurate adjustment for the determination, reproduction and measurement of changes introduced by geometric variations.

     

    Our test track can be used to transmit power to cars, busses or trucks equipped with inductive power pickups. We can test your complete system under realistic traffic conditions on vehicles that are moving.

– the Future is Wireless!

    ... but limited range and expensive battery technology is putting a dampener on public acceptance of this technology. Our answer is wireless inductive transfer of electricity to the vehicle, even while on the move.

    Wireless technology means no mess, no fuss and nothing to get in the way. Induction coils can be built into current roads with little disruption, reducing the need for charging stations with cables. In addition, coils need only be installed in places where vehicles are likely to have to loiter, for example at traffic junctions and lights. The advantages are an increase in safety, simplicity and durability, making charging your car a problem free activity. With a reduced need for battery capacity, electric vehicles can be made smaller, lighter and cheaper.

     

    Thin and light-weight, the vehicle side pickup can be easily integrated with current and future electric vehicles. Our pickup is also compatible with current stationary inductive charging solutions used in car ports, garages and car parks. Flexible and powerful, dynamic inductive charging allows electric vehicles to satisfy modern mobility requirements.

     

    Direct provision of locomotive energy without using the battery system for propulsion decreases losses resulting from charging. A reduced battery capacity and vehicle weight increases useful carrying capacity, improves safety and reduces vehicle and running costs. This innovative technology promotes the introduction and use of electric vehicles and therefor provides a way to move towards a transport model that is both efficient and environmentally friendly in its use of renewable energy.

     

    Inductive power transfer systems are not subject to wear and tear and enable the unhindered use of electric vehicles for balancing of loads within electrical grids, when granted by the vehicle operator.
